The IIDA Northern California Chapter Honor Awards aims to encourage new ideas and techniques in the design and furnishing of interior spaces. Honor Awards is open to design firms of all sizes, focus, and interest practicing in the IIDA Northern California region.
One of the most rewarding, but also challenging tasks asked of arts professionals is to jury a show. Within the short time span of a few hours, one is asked to make hundreds of decisions. Is this work in? Is this work out? Does this work merit an award? Which work, among this diverse range of media deserves to be called “the best?”
Earlier today, President Obama signed into law the Every Student Succeeds Act, which will transform our education system. Affecting instructional practice in 100,000 American K-12 schools, it will impact 50 million students and 3 million teachers.
This authorization spans from FY2017 through FY2020, ushering in a new era of education in America with increased local control and state-level accountability, and also new opportunities for arts education, including:
Dedicated funding for arts education through the “Assistance for Arts Education” grant program;
Inclusion of the arts in the “Well-Rounded Education” definition with over a dozen references in the bill ensuring among other things that the arts continue to be eligible for Title I funds – the largest federal funding source to local educational agencies and schools;
Integration of the arts in STEM programs – recognized in the field as “STEM to STEAM
